The First European Epilepsy Day

Do you know what Napoleon, Alfred Nobel and Agatha Christie have in common? They share epilepsy, one of the most common disorders of the central nervous system in the world.

On 14 February 2011, the first European Epilepsy Day, the Slovenian association League Against Epilepsy and Medis Pharmaceuticals, hosted a press conference called "The many faces of epilepsy".

"Most people with epilepsy lead normal lives, they work, study and enjoy themselves. If epilepsy is well controlled, it is a disorder which does not obstruct the achievement of patient's life goals," is the main message of the conference.

Many people with epilepsy find out that more than seizures they are disturbed by a negative stigma that is still present today.

On the first European Epilepsy Day, a new booklet for patients was published, entitled "Epilepsy and women". Authors are Dominika Novak, Boštjan Čebular, Gal Granda and Bogdan Lorber. They collected useful information for women with epilepsy, which will be helpful to patients and their families.

The booklet was published by Medis Pharmaceuticals.
